The 2015 nominees for the 87th Academy Awards have been announced. The films include "Selma", "Birdman", "American Sniper", and many more. "American Sniper" has six Oscar nominations including best picture and best actor, Bradley Cooper. "Selma" has two Oscar nominations. Reasons behind this waiver from the panel's demographic being mainly white, male, and aged over 63. Other reasons may be that the isues coinciding with current news have made these matters touchy or uncomfortable. This caught my attention because the nominees this year are not quite what I expected. There are great films throughout the nominees but there are many more films that were expected to be included who didn't get a single one. Films such as "Gone Girl" and "Inherent Vice" only got one nomination each when they had many great aspects to them. As a filmmaker, it's interesting to see which films make the nominees out of the variety of great films made. A question I do have is what the process like for choosing the nominations is precisely like?
